Music based on diatonic scales and harmonies, as opposed to chromatic or twelve-tone harmonies, but which does not conform to traditional tonal schemes. Instead of transitioning from C major to G major or A minor, as would be expected in the first movement of a piece in the time-honored sonata form, a pandiatonic piece of music may move from C major to F-sharp major, to B-flat minor, etc.
